CWG is a little wooden disc with laser engraved images on both sides. The disc have prescribed dimension - diameter of 35 mm and a thickness of 7 mm with the rear side edge cut (as shown below). Ready made discs (called knots) are commonly used for carpentry. Recommended are graded spruce bough knots that used to be the only accepted kind at the beginning. Since 2012 however also knots of solid wood are permitted and there are no rules on used type of wood anymore. Now the catalog does not distinguish between different types of knots or wood.
The front side of CWG bears either the name of geocacher (as for personal CWG) or any other title (as for events or cache, etc.) and the mandatory text "CZ GEOCACHING". All inscriptions must be in prescribed font and positioned as shown on illustration below. In the remaining space there can be any image or other texts of your own choice. Any change of the front means a new version of CWG.
Rear side with the official logo of geocaching is uniform. The year is the year of manufacture of CWG, same as classic coins. There is only one exception - before the end of every year (from November) you may have CWG with next year's date made at request (typically comes as a Christmas gift or such). It is not allowed to make CWG with a date of any previous year though.
CWG 2015/2020 design with parameters |
* If you order from one of the CWG registered manufacturers you don't need to worry as the manufacturers will have them sent for you. |
Otherwise send samples to: GeoGadget, Jesuitská 6, 412 01 Litoměřice, Czech Republic. Please give your nick at gc.com and a link to the profile or to the listing concerning the CWG. Thank you. |
* The manufacturer will not design and/or offer incorrectly designed CWGs. The manufacturer is also obliged to point it out to the customer that the disc does not match the specifications and will probably not get to the catalog should he/she bring incorrectly designed CWGs in him/herself. |
This we hope will clearly set all the rules also for existing registered manufacturers that we have contacted over the years individually. |
The new design 2015 now enables smooth creation of other national variants CWG. In an attempt to standardize spontaneously arising clones of foreign CWGs we are now including other national variations in the official specifications. |

The new version with the words "CZ GEOCACHING" can be easily modified using standard abbreviations States. Here are is a standard for two-letter abbreviations for the EU, possibly around the world. |
On the back side is to be used an adjective derived from the English name of the country concerned. |
Examples of the mandatory texts in national versions of CWG: SK GEOCACHING - SLOVAK WOOD GEOCOIN, DE GEOCACHING - GERMAN WOOD GEOCOIN, AT GEOCACHING - AUSTRIAN W.G., PL GEOCACHING - POLISH W.G., UK GEOCACHING - ENGLISH W.G., CA GEOCACHING - CANADIAN W.G., ... |
Templates for production CWG are processed in a graphics program Corel Draw. They are intentionally stored in earlier versions of the program, so as not to trouble their opening using older software. |
